Yu-Gi-Oh! SEVENS Episode 13 Sub Release

I’ve finally managed to get a proofreader (angelthinktank), so hopefully these subs will require less correction than the previous episode’s did. Thank you for the support as always!

If there are any corrections you wish to make, please put them through the submit box! For questions, use the ask box, but please make sure to read the FAQ first.

Below are extended translation notes for this episode, so spoilers ahead.

————

大いなる器 (ooi naru utsuwa)

If sushi girl isn’t giving me a pun, it’s someone else from the food trio. Menzaburo is using 器 (utsuwa), which can mean both a bowl (like for noodles) or great talent/ability.

Once again, there was an attempt to preserve the pun.

Otes vs Otis

王の資格 (ou no shikaku)

More literally this would be “the qualifications [to become] King”, but this was translated as “the right” [to become King] in the subs simply because of timing. When subbing, you have to also take into account whether or not your audience is going to parse a word they read on screen as fast as they’re saying it.

Seeing as ‘qualification’ is 5 syllables and a mouthful compared to “the right” (which conveys a similar enough meaning), this is the translation that made it to the final version.

Royal Demons vs Royal Demon’s

Last episode I subbed this with the apostrophe but this episode I didn’t. This was intentional, as I realized watching this episode that if they meant for it to have an apostrophe, they would add an extra syllable between the ん (n) and ズ (zu), which they did for Headbanger’s Destruction.

Going forward this will be more consistent.
